La Romana is the main city in the East of the country. Just over 100,000 inhabitants live there. It was founded by the Spanish to be used as a commercial export port. The US Company "Gulf & Western" has had a lot to do with the city's commercial and financial activity as in 1920 it invested in the area's sugar industry and the largest sugar refinery in the country is now: La Central in La Romana.
At just 20 minutes from La Romana is Bayahibe, a small fishing town.
Dominicus Beach is one of the most popular in the area.
Saona Island and Catalina Island.Saona Island is larger by area than Catalina and is within the Eastern National Park. Saona Island is beautiful, or rather it is a paradise where you can enjoy its beautiful beaches.
