| Alicante or Alacant (Spanish: Alicante, Valencian: Alacant) is a city in Spain, the capital of the province of Alicante and of the comarca of the Alacantí, in the southern part of the Valencian Community. It is also a historic Mediterranean port. The population of the city of Alicante proper was 331,750, estimated as of 2008, ranking as the second-largest Valencian city. Including nearby municipalities, Alicante conurbation was populated by 452,462 residents. Population of the metropolitan area (including Elche and satellite towns) was 757,443 as of 2008 estimates, ranking as the eighth-largest metropolitan area of Spain. |

- San Juan Bonfires from 20th to 24th June:
According to custom, bad omens are burned on the bonfire and three wishes are made for the new year. The festivities par excellence are held in the city of Alicante.
- Virgen del Carmen (16th July)Festivities to honour the patron saint of fishermen. The fishermen decorate their boats with flowers, flags to form a procession on the high seas to pay tribute to their patron saint.
- Moros y Cristianos.The Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians) festivities is possibly the most famous celebration of the Spanish coast, where the decoration of the streets, fights and combats,to emulate the period of the Reconquest.
