El Rey stands at Km. 17.5 of Boulevard Kukulcán, in Cancún¿s Hotel Zone. Skirting the Nichupté lagoon, El Rey was the first archaeological site explored in Cancún, and many objects unearthed here are exhibited in Cancún¿s Museum of Archaeology, next to the Convention Centre. Experts believe that El Rey was a major ritual centre that reached its height in the Post-Classical Period (1250-1521 AD).

Located 6km north of Cancún on the road to Punta Sam, El Meco was opened to the public in April 2001. The remains of many temples, columns, a big court, and a well-kept pyramid can be found in this site.

At Km. 6.5 west of Punta Cancún there is Playa Tortugas. Calm and shallow waters characterise this beach, suitable for families travelling with kids. Opposite the pier, there is a bungee jumping platform.

Cancún can boast of having more than 500 restaurants serving the best of national and international cuisine. As in any coastal town, seafood reigns supreme, but many eateries serve vegetarian food as well, or the exquisite, spicy Maya food, based on corn and meat (chicken, pork, rabbit) and taking beans, corn, and Serrano or Habanero chilli as fillings.
