Cancún is one of the leading travel destinations in Mexico. Tulum

Tulum is an ancient walled city built by the Maya. It lies 128km south of Cancún. It used to be one of the region¿s major cities. Built on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, it was protected by a wall and two watchtowers. The castle is a must-visit, as are the temples, the House of Columns, and the Halach Uinic House.

Chichen-Itza is 200km away from Cancún along national road 180, and 120km from Mérida. It was one of the most important Mayan cities, its power lasting from 750 to 1200 AD. Now it is an archaeological site in the northern part of the Yucatán Peninsula. Important Maya ruins at the site include the large temple known as El Castillo, whose 365 steps lead up to the temple of Kukulcán at the top, the Ball Court, the Sacred Well, the Hall of the Thousand Columns, or the Temple of the Warriors.
